ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has secured a 30-year concession from the Paradip Port Authority (PPA) to mechanise and operate the CQ-III berth for handling dry bulk cargo on a captive basis. The concession has been awarded to AMNS Paradip Logistics Private Limited (APLPL), a special purpose vehicle of AM/NS India.
The project will involve developing a fully mechanised berth with a conveyor system and ship-loading facilities linked directly to the company’s pellet plant complex. The facility is designed to handle iron ore pellets and support their coastal movement from Paradip in Odisha to AM/NS India’s steelmaking facility at Hazira, Gujarat.
The mechanised system is expected to streamline cargo movement, reduce dependence on road transportation, improve turnaround times and lower logistics costs. It is also expected to reduce handling-related emissions, supporting the government’s broader push to promote coastal shipping as a fuel-efficient and environmentally sustainable mode of freight transport.
The captive berth will provide AM/NS India with more predictable access to port infrastructure and strengthen the resilience of its steel supply chain. The project is also expected to improve throughput, facilitate steady pellet movement and reduce congestion at general cargo berths.
The development marks another step towards modernising port operations while strengthening coastal logistics and greener freight corridors in India.
