The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded ₹8,308 crore worth of contracts for the construction of the Bhubaneswar Ring Road, marking a major infrastructure development initiative in Bhubaneswar.
The project contracts have been allocated to three infrastructure firms, which will undertake different segments of the ring road under the authority’s highway development programme. The ring road is expected to ease traffic congestion within the city while improving regional connectivity with surrounding districts and major national highways.
Officials said the project will play a crucial role in diverting heavy vehicular traffic away from the city centre, reducing travel time and enhancing road safety. Once completed, the ring road will strengthen logistics efficiency by providing smoother transit routes for freight and long-distance vehicles.
Infrastructure experts believe the project will also support economic growth in the region by improving connectivity to industrial zones, logistics hubs, and emerging urban corridors. Large-scale road projects typically generate employment during the construction phase while stimulating real estate and commercial activity in adjacent areas.
The ₹8,308-crore Bhubaneswar Ring Road initiative reflects the government’s continued emphasis on expanding highway infrastructure to support urban mobility and regional economic development.
