Electronics City Flyover: Petition Seeks End to Toll Collection in Bengaluru

Date:

Bengaluru’s Electronics City elevated highway has become the focus of renewed discussion after its concession agreement expired on September 10, 2026. An online petition has urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to clarify the future of toll collection on the corridor.

The nearly 9.9-km elevated road connects Central Silk Board Junction with Electronics City and forms an important part of the Bengaluru-Hosur corridor. The project was developed under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model and was inaugurated in January 2010.

The petition, initiated by Rajkumar Dugar of Citizens for Citizens, argues that toll collection was linked to recovering construction, operation and maintenance costs during the concession period. It calls for the toll plaza to be closed and the road to be taken over for future maintenance. The petition also raises concerns about waterlogging along parts of the corridor.

Meanwhile, questions remain over how the elevated road will be operated and maintained. Earlier reports indicated that authorities were considering several options, including ending the existing toll arrangement, allowing NHAI to continue collecting toll through an agency, transferring the stretch to Karnataka, or shifting a toll plaza.

The issue now awaits further decisions from the relevant authorities, with commuters and stakeholders seeking clarity on tolls, maintenance and the long-term management of the corridor.
