Nagpur‑Vijayawada Expressway to Power Surge in Steel Demand

The under‑construction Nagpur–Vijayawada Expressway, part of the 405 km Nagpur–Vijayawada Economic Corridor, is poised to significantly strengthen steel demand through accelerated infrastructure development. By connecting Vidarbha in Maharashtra to the ports of Andhra Pradesh, the corridor will slash logistics costs and boost cargo  movement, delivering major headwinds to domestic steel consumption growth.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasised the multi‑state corridor’s strategic value, noting that it runs close to Vidarbha’s steel‑producing zones and enables direct export routes via Vizag and Kakinada ports. Paired with the nearing‑completion Raipur–Visakhapatnam Expressway (₹37,000 crore), the corridor forms a logistics backbone that will fuel demand for structural steel in bridges, interchanges, road surfaces and warehousing infrastructure.

As India’s construction boom continues, with infrastructure projects consuming nearly 30% of steel output, this corridor represents both a catalyst and a tangible driver of industrial growth.
