Delhi is set to undergo a major transformation in its road transport infrastructure as authorities roll out an ambitious upgrade plan aimed at easing congestion and improving connectivity across the capital. The project will cover nearly 150km of roads, including about 46km of new overpasses and underpasses, focusing on some of the city’s most traffic-heavy corridors.
A key highlight of the plan is the development of long elevated corridors, including a proposed 19km elevated road to be constructed in phases. This corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time and streamline movement across key routes. In addition, a 20km corridor connecting NH-48 with Phirni Road will enhance connectivity between important urban zones.
The upgrade also aligns with the expansion of metro infrastructure, with plans for double-deck flyovers that will support both metro lines and road traffic simultaneously. This integrated, multi-level approach reflects a shift toward smarter use of space in a densely populated urban environment.
Although the total investment is yet to be disclosed, the scale of the project signals a strong push toward modernizing Delhi’s transport ecosystem. By combining elevated roads, improved corridors and metro-linked infrastructure, the initiative aims to create a faster, more efficient and future-ready mobility network.
