The installation of a gas pipeline connecting Mizoram with neighboring Tripura is currently in progress under the ambitious North East Gas Grid (NEGG) initiative. The project is set to transform energy accessibility in Mizoram, particularly by bringing household gas connections to residents of Aizawl and surrounding regions.
Stretching 119 kilometers from Panisagar in Tripura to Sihhmui near Aizawl, the pipeline includes 104 kilometers within Mizoram and 15 kilometers in Tripura. According to Mizoram’s Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister B. Lalchhanzova, who recently chaired a review meeting, about 23.5 percent—or 28 kilometers—of the work has already been completed.
The project is being executed by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL), in collaboration with the Mizoram state government. Once completed, the pipeline will not only ensure reliable access to clean and affordable energy but also reduce dependency on LPG cylinder distribution in the hilly terrain.
This initiative marks a significant step toward integrating Mizoram into the national gas grid and promoting balanced regional development, improving both domestic convenience and industrial potential in the Northeast.
