Gadkari to Inaugurate Rs 436 Crore Elevated Corridor in Puducherry

Date:

Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari is set to visit Puducherry to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a high-impact infrastructure project: a ₹436 crore elevated corridor, spanning about 4 km, that will connect Indira Gandhi Square with Rajiv Gandhi Square in the Union Territory.

Beyond this flagship corridor, the visit will see the dedication of three national highway projects totalling over ₹2,000 crore. In addition, improvement work will begin on a 14-km stretch of the East Coast Road, with an investment of approximately ₹25 crore. Gadkari is also scheduled to inaugurate the newly completed 38-km, four-lane Puducherry–Poondiankuppam section of National Highway 32, which was developed at a cost of ₹1,588 crore.

Key dignitaries expected to attend include the Puducherry Lieutenant Governor, the Chief Minister, Union and state ministers and representatives from Tamil Nadu’s Public Works Department. The elevated corridor is seen as a strategic move to ease traffic congestion, improve urban mobility and integrate the city’s road network with national highway expansion plans.

This initiative underscores the government’s renewed push for robust urban and intercity connectivity, especially in regions where infrastructural bottlenecks hamper growth. With multiple projects set to be launched or dedicated, Puducherry is poised to benefit from enhanced road infrastructure, better traffic flow and improved quality of urban life.
