Construction robotics startup Origin has secured $20 million in total funding to expand its robotic technology for interior construction and accelerate the deployment of its flagship OG-1 robot. The funding round was co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures, with participation from other investors, including Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures and Z21.
The funding will support fleet expansion, large-scale customer pilots in the United States and Europe, and the development of robotic solutions for additional construction activities.
Origin’s OG-1 robot is designed to automate interior wall-finishing tasks, including applying compound, sanding and priming. Equipped with sensors, cameras and interchangeable tools, the robot can navigate construction sites and perform finishing work at heights of up to 14 feet, according to the company.
The company aims to address labour shortages and improve productivity across the construction industry by automating repetitive and physically demanding tasks. Origin also plans to expand its technology into activities such as drywall installation, taping, drilling and conduit installation.
Customer pilot projects are planned across several international markets, including Germany, Sweden, France and Saudi Arabia.
Origin is targeting the deployment of 150 robots by the end of 2027. The initiative highlights the growing adoption of artificial intelligence and robotics in construction, as companies explore technology-driven solutions to improve project efficiency and address workforce challenges.
