Adani Power has laid the foundation stone for a 3,200 MW thermal power project at Chapar in Assam’s Dhubri district. The project represents an investment of around ₹48,000 crore and is expected to become one of the largest power generation assets in the Northeast.
The development marks a major expansion of Adani Power’s presence in Assam and highlights the company’s focus on strengthening the region’s power infrastructure.
Speaking at the foundation stone ceremony, Adani Group Director Jeet Adani said the group has already conducted several employment drives across Assam. These initiatives have resulted in the hiring of around 4,500 local youth for the project.
The Adani Group has a growing presence in Assam across several sectors. Its businesses in the state include power, airports, smart meters, cement, connectivity, and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services.
According to the group, investments worth nearly ₹80,000 crore are currently underway across Assam. The new power project is expected to add further momentum to this investment activity while supporting the state’s energy infrastructure and creating employment opportunities.
The project is also set to strengthen Assam’s role in the Northeast’s growing power sector.
