India’s construction sector is changing as digital tools become a bigger part of planning and engineering. The Fairmont Palace Udaipur project in Rajasthan is one example of how technology is being used to manage a large and complex development.
Spread across around 500,000 square feet, the luxury resort is being built on a hillside site and combines modern construction with traditional Rajasthani design. The location and design called for detailed structural planning, particularly because of the terrain and local environmental conditions.
Digital engineering tools were used during the structural design process to study factors such as seismic activity, wind loads, terrain and soil-structure interaction. These tools also helped the project team coordinate different aspects of the structural work and examine design options before construction.
According to project data, the structural design was completed four months ahead of schedule, while the overall project was delivered 35% faster. The digital approach also helped save more than 800 resource hours.
Material planning was another area where technology played a role. The project reportedly used about 420 metric tonnes less steel and 2,400 cubic metres less concrete. This resulted in material savings of around Rs 2.8 crore, while total reported savings exceeded Rs 3.8 crore.
The project data also points to an estimated 20% improvement in structural resilience and more than 1,000 metric tonnes of avoided carbon emissions.
The development shows how digital engineering is becoming an important part of modern construction. As projects grow larger and more detailed, technology can help teams plan work, manage resources and coordinate construction more efficiently.
