Reliance Industries and Meta Platforms have expanded their strategic partnership with plans to develop a large-scale AI-enabled data centre in India, marking a significant advancement in the nation’s digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence ecosystem.
The proposed facility will be established in Jamnagar and is designed to support Meta’s rapidly growing artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data processing requirements. Under the agreement, Reliance will construct a dedicated data centre with an initial capacity of 168 MW, which will be leased to Meta. The project also includes provisions for future expansion as demand for AI computing infrastructure continues to rise.
A key feature of the development is its strong focus on sustainability. The facility will operate entirely on renewable energy sources and utilise desalinated seawater for cooling operations, reducing its environmental footprint. Meta will bear the full operational costs associated with energy consumption and water usage.
Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani described the initiative as a transformative step for India’s digital future. He noted that the project reinforces India’s growing position as a global destination for advanced data centres and AI innovation. The collaboration is expected to support the country’s digital transformation ambitions while creating a robust foundation for next-generation technology infrastructure and AI-driven growth.
