Karnataka Tourism Pushes Infrastructure and Heritage Development Across the State

Date:

The Karnataka Tourism Department has rolled out an ambitious plan to upgrade tourism infrastructure and visitor services across the state, focusing on heritage monuments, eco-tourism destinations, and major pilgrimage centres. The initiative aims to balance improved tourist experiences with conservation of local culture and ecology.

Tourism projects worth ₹367.32 crore are being implemented under four Central government schemes, with tenders already floated for multiple components. Several prominent destinations—including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Bidar, Udupi, Hampi, Ballari, and Belagavi—will see significant upgrades. Planned improvements include audio-guided heritage walks, dedicated cycle tracks, enhanced visitor amenities, and better mobility infrastructure.

In Bengaluru, the historic Roerich and Devika Rani Estate at Tataguni will be developed into an eco-tourism and cultural hub featuring nature trails, wellness facilities, and immersive experiences. Udupi will benefit from an 11.7-km cycling corridor connecting Mattu and Padukere beaches, promoting sustainable coastal tourism. Mysuru is set to receive upgraded tonga stands and eco-experience zones, while Bidar Fort will introduce audio guides and forest trails.

Officials said the broader plan also includes eco-wellness plazas with waterfront and garden-view cottages, reinforcing Karnataka’s vision of responsible, experience-driven tourism development.
