Chennai’s Construction Industry Set for Growth: Key Insights from L&T MD S.V. Raghavan

The construction industry in Chennai is poised for significant growth despite challenges, according to industry expert S. V. Raghavan, Managing Director of L&T Construction. Speaking at a recent industry conference, Raghavan highlighted key trends driving this expansion. He emphasized the increasing demand for residential and commercial infrastructure fueled by urbanization, as well as the government’s push for smart city initiatives. Raghavan noted that innovation in construction technology, particularly the adoption of modular and prefabricated building methods, is helping address labor shortages and reducing project timelines. He also mentioned the industry’s shift towards sustainability, with more eco-friendly and energy-efficient designs becoming standard practice. However, the sector continues to face obstacles, including rising material costs and labor issues. He urged for improved policy support to ensure smoother project execution. Despite these challenges, Raghavan remains optimistic about the long-term outlook, citing Chennai’s position as a key hub for commercial real estate and its expanding infrastructure projects.
