Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has urged Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to expedite the proposed Hebbal Junction to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) flyover corridor in Bengaluru. In a meeting held in New Delhi, Shivakumar emphasized the urgency of the project, citing severe traffic congestion along the 35-kilometer stretch due to rapid urbanization and increased airport activity.
The current infrastructure comprises disconnected flyovers and multiple traffic signals, leading to significant delays for commuters, especially those traveling to the airport and nearby industrial zones. Shivakumar highlighted that a dedicated, uninterrupted flyover would alleviate congestion, enhance road safety, and improve connectivity for both passengers and cargo.
Additionally, he addressed the stalled construction on a 7-kilometer segment of National Highway 209, halted due to National Green Tribunal objections, and requested the widening of NH-209 from Bengaluru to Kanakapura into a six-lane highway. Shivakumar also appealed for the prompt release of compensation to farmers affected by the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) project, which has faced delays since its initiation in 2019.
These infrastructure developments are deemed critical for enhancing regional connectivity and supporting the economic growth of North Bengaluru.
