Tripura’s Rs 250 Crore Sabroom Land Port Set to Operationalize in 2025, Strengthening Ties with Bangladesh

Date:

The much-anticipated Rs 250 crore Sabroom Land Port in Tripura is on track to commence operations in 2025, marking a pivotal moment in India’s efforts to bolster regional connectivity with Bangladesh. Strategically located near the Feni River and just 70 kilometers from Bangladesh’s Chittagong Port, the land port is poised to become a vital trade and transit hub in the region.

The Sabroom Land Port is designed to enhance cross-border movement by providing state-of-the-art infrastructure, including customs facilities, warehousing, and transport terminals. It is expected to significantly reduce logistical bottlenecks, ensuring smoother exports and imports of goods between the two nations.

This ambitious project aligns with India’s Act East Policy, aiming to integrate the Northeast with global markets. Officials anticipate that the port will boost trade in key sectors, including agricultural produce, textiles, and handicrafts, while also opening up access to Bangladesh’s thriving consumer market.

“This land port will act as a gateway for the Northeast, improving trade efficiency and creating economic opportunities for the region,” said an official from the Land Ports Authority of India.

With its operationalization, the Sabroom Land Port is set to deepen bilateral relations and accelerate economic growth in Tripura and beyond.
