Rs 14.98 Trillion in IT: India Goes Big on AI and Data Centres

Date:

India’s investment announcements offer a sign that the country is entering a new phase of digital growth. Between April 1 and August 5, 2026-27, India recorded proposed investments of ₹26.75 trillion. What stands out is the role of data centres and artificial intelligence in this flow of capital.

According to a Bank of Baroda economics research report, the Information Technology-enabled Services sector accounted for 56 per cent of the proposed investments. Nearly 99 per cent of the ₹14.98 trillion announced in this sector is linked to data centres and AI projects. This reflects a belief in India’s digital future.

The most encouraging aspect is the participation of Indian private companies. They account for 86 per cent of the total announced investments. This shows that domestic businesses are taking an active role in building infrastructure for the next generation of technology.

Data centres will support cloud services, digital platforms, enterprise applications and AI workloads. At the same time, the expansion of renewable energy, electronics, batteries and power projects can create a wider ecosystem around digital growth.

The involvement of 13 companies in data centre and AI commitments also points to a focused investment cycle. As these plans move forward, they can strengthen India’s digital capacity, support new business opportunities and help create a stronger technology ecosystem.

India’s investment story is increasingly becoming a story of digital infrastructure. The scale of current announcements suggests that data centres and AI will remain pillars of the country’s economic growth journey.
