Volvo Group Korea and POSCO have announced a strategic collaboration to develop high-performance metals and advanced manufacturing technologies aimed at transforming next-generation construction equipment. The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed at Volvo’s Changwon facility.
The collaboration focuses on creating lighter, stronger, and more durable materials, particularly high-strength steel, to improve equipment efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Both companies will work together across the entire development cycle—from material research to real-world application and validation in construction machinery.
The initiative comes as the construction equipment industry moves toward electrification and carbon neutrality, requiring innovative materials that can support energy efficiency without compromising performance. Volvo Group Korea will lead equipment development and provide technical insights, while POSCO will contribute its expertise in advanced steel and material technologies.
Experts believe that integrating material science with machinery design will be a key competitive advantage in the future. The jointly developed technologies are expected to be gradually implemented in excavators and other equipment, enhancing durability, performance, and sustainability.
