The Government of Andhra Pradesh has given approval for a large-scale construction project involving a greenfield port and a National Mega Shipbuilding Cluster at Dugarajapatnam. The project represents a significant addition to coastal infrastructure development and focuses on building modern port and shipbuilding facilities along the state’s eastern coastline.
The construction scope includes the development of core port infrastructure such as berths, breakwaters, cargo handling areas, and support facilities, along with a dedicated shipbuilding and ship repair yard. An anchor shipyard will be constructed to handle large vessels, supported by workshops, dry docks, fabrication units, and utilities required for ship construction and maintenance. The project will also involve the creation of internal roads, drainage systems, power supply, and water management infrastructure to support continuous operations.
A special purpose vehicle will be formed to execute the construction works, ensuring coordinated planning and phased implementation. Land acquisition and site development activities will be undertaken to prepare the area for large-scale marine and industrial construction.
Once completed, the project will significantly enhance India’s port construction capacity and establish a modern shipbuilding ecosystem. The initiative is expected to create long-term infrastructure assets, strengthen coastal construction capabilities, and support future maritime and industrial expansion in the region.
