Voltas is evaluating plans to enter compressor manufacturing as part of its strategy to strengthen backward integration and expand domestic production capabilities, Chairman Noel Tata announced during the company’s annual general meeting (AGM).
The company is planning an investment of around ₹200 crore in FY27 after completing most of its major manufacturing expansion projects. Voltas has already undertaken several large-scale initiatives, including a 65-acre manufacturing facility in Tirupati with an investment of more than ₹500 crore. The plant will have an initial annual production capacity of over one million air-conditioners and related cooling products.
The company has also started work on a new air-conditioner manufacturing facility at Madharapakkam in Tamil Nadu. Overall, Voltas has planned investments exceeding ₹1,300 crore across compressor manufacturing, capacity expansion, and new home appliance segments.
To support its expansion plans, Voltas also aims to raise up to ₹500 crore through non-convertible debentures for funding manufacturing facilities in Chennai and Waghodia, Gujarat.
Meanwhile, Noel Tata announced his decision to step down as chairman of the Tata Group’s consumer durables company, marking his final AGM in the leadership role.
