Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has called for a transformative shift in India’s transport infrastructure, placing safety, efficiency and passenger comfort at the forefront of development. Speaking at the Busworld India Conclave 2026 in New Delhi, he emphasised that the sector must move beyond cost-focused expansion toward quality-driven mobility systems aligned with global standards.
Gadkari highlighted that India’s rapidly expanding network of highways has significantly reduced travel time and improved connectivity across regions. However, he noted that the next phase of growth should prioritise enhanced commuter experience, adoption of advanced technologies and stronger safety measures for all road users.
He further stressed that infrastructure must now be people-centric, reflecting the evolving expectations of citizens. With increasing urbanisation and rising mobility demands, there is a growing need for innovative and sustainable solutions that improve public transport systems while easing congestion.
