The Central Government has undertaken a comprehensive review of more than 7,700 kilometres of National Highway projects across Telangana, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, reinforcing its commitment to developing safe, durable and world-class road infrastructure. The review was chaired by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, along with Minister of State Harsh Malhotra.
The assessment covered 4,931 km of highways in Telangana, 2,035 km in Jammu & Kashmir and 804 km in Ladakh. Officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), NHIDCL and project contractors participated in the meetings to evaluate ongoing construction, maintenance and project execution.
During the review, Gadkari stressed the need to accelerate project completion while maintaining the highest standards of quality, transparency and accountability. He directed agencies to strengthen monitoring systems, adopt advanced construction technologies and ensure long-term durability and better riding comfort for commuters.
With the monsoon season approaching, the minister also instructed officials to implement preventive measures such as effective drainage management, slope stabilisation, protection works and rapid-response mechanisms to minimise weather-related disruptions and improve road safety.
The government believes that a robust National Highway network is vital for enhancing regional connectivity, promoting tourism, supporting trade and driving economic growth. The latest review reflects the Centre’s continued focus on timely execution, modern engineering practices and sustainable infrastructure development to strengthen India’s transportation network.
