As of October 2024, India’s construction logistics sector is experiencing significant advancements, driven by initiatives like the National Logistics Policy (NLP) and the Union Budget 2024. The NLP’s emphasis on reducing logistics costs to 8% of GDP aligns with global standards and aims to enhance the efficiency of supply chains, particularly in the construction industry. The development of specialized railway corridors, including those for minerals, cement, and high-traffic areas, is expected to streamline freight movement, reduce transit times, and support the seamless transport of construction materials across the country. Additionally, new tax benefits for startups, such as a three-year tax holiday, are fostering growth and innovation, particularly in technology-enabled logistics solutions that can optimize supply chain operations across the construction sector. Moreover, the government’s commitment to sustainable logistics is evident in its push for electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, which supports greener last-mile deliveries and promises cost-effective transport solutions for heavy construction materials. This policy landscape is setting the stage for India’s construction logistics to be more efficient, environmentally friendly, and capable of supporting large-scale projects.
