Varanasi Officials Directed to Fast-Track Logistics Hub and Freight Terminal Projects

Date:

Varanasi Divisional Commissioner S. Rajalingam has instructed officials to accelerate work on the city’s key logistics infrastructure projects, including the Multi-Modal Terminal and the proposed Freight Village. These initiatives are part of the government’s larger strategy to enhance cargo movement and streamline regional connectivity.

During a site inspection at Ramnagar, Rajalingam reviewed progress on the upcoming sewage treatment plant (STP), with coordination underway between the irrigation department, UP Jal Nigam, Namami Gange, and the Inland Waterways Authority of India. He also assessed operational readiness of vessels such as MV Bengal Ganga, SL Jahnavi, and a hydrogen-powered boat stationed at the terminal.

A key highlight was the review of land acquired for the proposed 100-acre Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) on the Varanasi-Chandauli border, to be developed by the National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML). The logistics park is expected to transform the region into a major freight handling and warehousing hub.

These developments underscore Varanasi’s growing importance in India’s logistics network, aligning with national efforts to boost infrastructure and reduce cargo handling time across key trade corridors.
