The Electricity Department has executed several infrastructure works to strengthen the power network ahead of the summer season, aiming to ensure reliable supply during peak demand months. The measures come as electricity consumption typically surges due to increased use of cooling appliances and higher commercial activity.
Officials said the works include upgradation of substations, replacement of ageing transformers, strengthening of transmission and distribution lines, and preventive maintenance across key feeders. Load balancing and network reconfiguration have also been undertaken to reduce the risk of outages and improve response time in case of faults.
Special focus has been placed on high-demand residential and commercial pockets, along with hospitals, water supply systems, and other essential services. The department has also enhanced monitoring mechanisms and deployed additional maintenance teams to address breakdowns swiftly during peak hours.
In addition, steps have been taken to improve safety standards, including clearance of vegetation near power lines, installation of protective equipment, and public awareness drives to prevent electrical accidents during the summer.
Energy officials noted that proactive infrastructure preparation is critical to maintaining uninterrupted power supply as temperatures rise. With the completion of these works, the Electricity Department aims to minimise load shedding, reduce technical losses, and ensure smoother power distribution throughout the summer—supporting households, businesses, and essential services during the peak season.
