Sitegeist Raises €4M Pre-Seed to Deploy AI-Powered Robots for Concrete Renovation

Date:

Sitegeist, a Munich-based construction robotics startup and spinout of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), has secured €4 million in pre-seed funding to address Europe’s growing concrete renovation crisis. The round was co-led by b2venture and OpenOcean, with participation from prominent angel investors including Verena Pausder, Lea-Sophie Cramer, and Alexander Schwörer, along with strategic backers from the construction and robotics sectors.

Europe faces a massive backlog of infrastructure repairs — bridges, tunnels, parking structures, and public buildings — with renovation costs in Germany alone running into hundreds of billions of euros. A severe labour shortage in the sector further compounds delays and expenses.

Sitegeist’s AI-enabled modular robots automate concrete removal and renovation on complex, unstructured sites without requiring prior 3D models or digital plans. Using advanced sensors, AI decision-making, and adaptive controls, the robots perform high-pressure water or abrasive blasting to remove concrete while protecting steel reinforcement.

Founded by Dr. Lena-Marie Pätzmann, Julian Hoffmann, Nicola Kolb, and Claus Carste — two male and two female founders — the company combines deep robotics expertise with strong business acumen.

The fresh capital will be used to scale operations, hire talent, deploy robots across more job sites, and expand the platform to additional tasks such as sandblasting and drilling.
