UP Irrigation Department Launches Seven New Drainage Projects Worth ₹74.3 Crore

Uttar Pradesh’s Irrigation and Water Resources Department has announced the development of seven new drainage projects across the state for the financial year 2025-26, at a combined cost of ₹74.3 crore.

The projects will be implemented across five districts — Bahraich, Bijnor, Gonda, Hapur, and Meerut. While Gonda, Hapur, and Meerut will each receive one drainage project, Bijnor and Bahraich will see two projects each developed in their respective regions.

These initiatives are designed to tackle persistent waterlogging issues and strengthen irrigation support for farming communities. By improving drainage infrastructure, the department aims to ensure consistent water flow to agricultural fields while reducing the risk of flooding in low-lying rural areas.

In addition to new construction, the department has launched a large-scale cleaning drive for existing drainage networks. A target of cleaning 17,500 km of drains has been set before March 2026, out of which 11,065 km has already been completed, reflecting significant progress.

Together, these efforts reflect the state government’s commitment to modernising water management infrastructure, boosting agricultural productivity, and building resilience against seasonal flood and waterlogging challenges across Uttar Pradesh.
