Transforming Uttar Pradesh Transport: Village Connectivity & Modern Bus Terminals

Date:

Uttar Pradesh is embarking on an ambitious transformation of its public transport system aimed at increasing connectivity, modernising infrastructure and pushing for greener transport solutions. The state’s Transport Minister, Daya Shankar Singh, has laid out a plan to bring state‐roadway bus services to 12,200 villages currently without them, all within the span of the next year. Such efforts are expected to bridge mobility gaps, enable greater access to services and boost rural inclusion.

Alongside expanding reach, there is a strong emphasis on upgrading the experience for commuters. Nearly 23 bus stations are slated for redevelopment to bring them up to “airport‐standards”, with more modern facilities and improved aesthetics. The flagship Lucknow bus terminal will receive a ₹1,000 crore investment to become one of the most visually pleasing and functionally superior bus hubs in India.

In sustainability and service innovation, Uttar Pradesh is expanding electric bus services, extending them beyond urban centres into rural areas. Efforts are also underway to simplify citizen access to transport services using digital tools. About 1.5 lakh Jan Seva Kendras have been aligned with the transport department, now offering access to 49 different transport services, which is expected to streamline many processes for the public.

In all, Uttar Pradesh’s roadmap reflects a comprehensive attempt to not just connect villages but also elevate the standard of travel, making transport more reliable, modern and citizen‐friendly.
