Shripad Naik Takes Charge as Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy

Date:

Shripad Yesso Naik, Member of Parliament from North Goa, has recently assumed office as the Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy. His appointment comes at a crucial time when India is accelerating its renewable energy transition to meet ambitious climate targets.

India is currently implementing one of the world’s largest renewable energy expansion programs, aiming to achieve 500 GW of renewable capacity by 2030. As of October 2024, the country has installed 211.36 GW of capacity from non-fossil sources, accounting for 46.51% of its total power generation. The renewable sector has seen remarkable growth, with solar energy increasing over 32 times since 2014 and wind energy more than doubling.

Under Naik’s leadership, the ministry will focus on strengthening the domestic solar manufacturing base, promoting offshore wind energy, and advancing the National Green Hydrogen Mission. Key policy initiatives include financial incentives for domestic manufacturing, relaxed transmission charges for renewable projects, and increased foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows.

Naik emphasized that India’s renewable energy journey is not just about sustainability but also about economic growth, job creation, and energy security. The government remains committed to fostering innovation and ensuring affordable clean energy for all.
