Reliance to Build World’s Largest Data Centre in Gujarat

Date:

Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani, is set to establish the world’s largest data centre by capacity in Jamnagar, Gujarat, with an ambitious three-gigawatt capacity. This cutting-edge facility aims to cater to the surging global demand for AI services and will feature advanced AI semiconductors from Nvidia Corp.

The project positions Reliance alongside global tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet, who are heavily investing in AI-enabled data infrastructure. Once operational, the Jamnagar facility will surpass existing data centres globally, most of which operate at under one gigawatt capacity.

A key highlight of this initiative is its integration with renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, and green hydrogen, sourced from Reliance’s expansive green energy complex. However, experts caution that maintaining consistent power supply may require additional support from large-scale batteries and fossil fuels.

This monumental data centre will triple India’s current data centre capacity, which presently stands below one gigawatt, representing a major leap in the country’s AI and data infrastructure. Reliance’s bold vision underscores India’s growing role in the global tech ecosystem and aligns with the country’s efforts to embrace sustainable, AI-driven solutions.
