Riyaaz Patel has set a new benchmark in India’s construction industry with a record-breaking mass concrete pour of 8,700 m³ in just 29 hours for an industrial project. By definition, mass concrete refers to pours over one meter in height where the internal temperature can reach up to 70°C, requiring special planning and monitoring.
This project made history as the first-ever 4.5-meter-deep raft foundation pour in an Indian industrial building. Classified as a “cubical raft” owing to its uniform 4.5-meter depth, it posed critical challenges in controlling heat dissipation and ensuring structural durability.
To manage quality at such a scale, Riyaaz Patel deployed a three-member digital mission control team, a first in India, to monitor every transit mixer before clearance. Instead of rejecting vehicles, six identified cases were corrected scientifically at internal plants, showcasing a solutions-first approach.
The pour involved 1,158 transit mixers of varying capacities, supported by 150+ QC personnel strategically positioned across RMC plants, pumping stations, gate entry points, pouring sites and cube-filling stations. In total, more than 1,500 quality cubes were cast to ensure compliance with standards.
Widely known in the industry as the “Concrete Magician”, Riyaaz Patel reinforced his belief in being “technically correct” at every step. He urged the next generation of engineers to rely on Indian Standards, embrace technology and focus on building durable structures that serve the nation.
This achievement demonstrates Riyaaz Patel’s leadership in innovation, precision and commitment to excellence in industrial-scale construction.
