PermaCold Logistics Initiates Construction of $60 Million Cold‑Storage Warehouse in Georgia

Date:

PermaCold Logistics has signed a $60 million agreement to build a modern cold‑storage warehouse along Interstate 95 in Darien, Georgia. Officials marked the groundbreaking on July 10 at the Tidewaters Industrial Complex, launching construction under a partnership with Ti Cold and Karis Cold, specialists in cold storage development.

The USDA‑certified facility will accommodate up to 30,000 pallet positions and offer advanced blast‑freezing capabilities of up to 600,000 pounds per day. Strategically located just 20 miles from the Port of Brunswick, one hour from Savannah, and four hours from Atlanta, the warehouse will reinforce Georgia’s cold‑chain logistics network for frozen seafood and poultry exports.

Construction plans include 20 truck parking spaces, 16 loading bays, a 70‑foot‑deep loading dock, and a 50‑foot interior clearance for high‑cube racking systems. Phase One is expected to create 50 jobs, with infrastructure upgrades designed for seamless throughput and energy‑efficient operations.

Flavio Batista, Chief Commercial Officer of Georgia Ports, described the project as “a game‑changer for our refrigerated supply chain,” highlighting its role in cementing Savannah’s status as the Southeast’s premier hub for perishable goods. Pat Wilson of the Georgia Department of Economic Development noted that the facility’s use of QFM rapid‑freeze technology reflects the state’s commitment to logistics innovation and rural economic growth.
