Mumbai has emerged as a global data center powerhouse, ranking sixth worldwide in under-construction capacity, surpassing established hubs like London and Dublin, according to Cushman & Wakefield’s Global Data Center Market Comparison 2025 report. The city currently has 335 megawatts (MW) of data center capacity under construction, which is set to expand its operational capacity by 62% upon completion.
This growth is driven by factors such as power availability, land access, and robust infrastructure. Mumbai accounts for 42% of India’s projected under-construction capacity, underscoring its pivotal role in the nation’s digital infrastructure expansion.
The Asia-Pacific region is experiencing significant growth in the data center sector, with ten of the world’s 30 largest data center markets now located in this region. The region added 1.6 gigawatts (GW) of new capacity in 2024, bringing the total operational capacity to 12.2 GW. An additional 14.4 GW is currently under construction or planned.
Gautam Saraf, Executive Managing Director – Mumbai & New Business, India at Cushman & Wakefield, noted, “India’s data center sector has attracted prominent international operators and investors, even as domestic players continue to expand capacity.”
Mumbai’s ascent as a data center hub is further bolstered by upcoming digital infrastructure projects, including three undersea data cable landings expected in 2025, which will enhance inter-regional connectivity with Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Additionally, Pune is emerging as a significant player in the Asia-Pacific data center landscape, ranking fourth among the region’s top emerging data center markets. The city is rapidly becoming a preferred destination for hyperscalers and enterprise-grade colocation facilities.
With these developments, Mumbai is solidifying its position as a critical node in the global digital infrastructure network.
