Kerala has greenlit major logistics infrastructure projects to strengthen the ecosystem around Vizhinjam port. The state granted in-principle approval to three central public sector undertakings—Container Corporation of India (Concor), Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), and Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC)—to develop multimodal logistics parks.
Official orders for Concor and CWC were issued last week, following IOCL’s approval in January. Memorandums of Understanding with these PSUs are expected to be signed this month in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Vizhinjam International Seaport, which manages the transshipment port project, has allocated land for these developments. Concor will build a 25-acre logistics park at Kottukal near the port. CWC will establish a 50-acre warehouse and logistics complex at Amaravila along the Thiruvananthapuram-Nagercoil railway line. IOCL will receive approximately 20 acres near the port for its facility.
These strategic projects aim to create a comprehensive port-led industrial and logistics network, positioning Vizhinjam as a key transshipment hub while enhancing Kerala’s cargo handling and storage capabilities.
