Rome’s approval to build the world’s longest suspension bridge is a hopeful moment for Italy and its people. This bridge, spanning 3.7 km across the Strait of Messina, will link Sicily with the mainland and rise between two towers 400 m tall. It is designed to handle earthquakes and will even include two train lines and six lanes of road, three in each direction.
This bold project is expected to create over 120,000 jobs each year and spark new opportunities in Sicilia and Calabria, regions that have faced economic challenges.
The government has set aside 13.5 billion euros to make it happen over the next 10 years, showing a strong long-term commitment. This bridge is not just concrete and steel; it’s a promise of connection, growth and unity.
