India’s Construction Industry Trends

Date:

In a recent interview, Sumit Rakshit, Managing Director and Head of Project Management at Savills India, provided insights into the evolving construction landscape in India. He noted that the construction industry is projected to grow by 9.6% in real terms in 2023, driven largely by government infrastructure initiatives and a boom in commercial development. A significant trend highlighted was the rise in interior fit-out costs, reflecting a growing consumer demand for personalized and aesthetically pleasing environments, which has resulted in a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9% over the past decade.

However, the industry faces challenges, particularly a skilled labor shortage, leading to a 15% increase in wage rates. Rakshit emphasized that addressing these issues is crucial for sustaining growth and meeting market demands. He also pointed out that as the sector matures, innovations in technology and project management will play a pivotal role in enhancing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
