The ₹4,180 crore budget approved by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is expected to provide a significant boost to Visakhapatnam’s infrastructure growth, reinforcing the city’s position as a key urban and economic hub on India’s eastern coast.
The budget places strong emphasis on urban infrastructure upgrades, including roads, drainage systems, water supply, sanitation, and solid waste management. Allocations have also been made for improving public amenities, city beautification, and resilience measures to address flooding and climate-related challenges.
Officials said a sizeable portion of the outlay will be directed toward road development and traffic management, aimed at easing congestion and improving connectivity across expanding residential and commercial areas. Investments in underground drainage and stormwater systems are expected to enhance the city’s preparedness during the monsoon season.
The GVMC budget also supports smart city initiatives, digital governance, and basic civic services, aligning with Vizag’s long-term urban development goals. Industry observers note that sustained municipal spending is crucial for attracting private investment and supporting real estate, tourism, and industrial growth.
Experts believe the ₹4,180 crore allocation reflects a proactive approach to city planning. If executed efficiently, the GVMC budget could significantly improve livability, strengthen urban infrastructure, and support Vizag’s growth as a major metropolitan centre in the coming years.
