Georgia-Pacific is intensifying its commitment to sustainability by expanding its portfolio of eco-friendly packaging and building materials, reinforcing its role in advancing a circular economy.
Eco-Friendly Packaging Innovations
The company has broadened its EarthKraft™ line of recyclable mailers, introducing larger and gusseted versions to accommodate a wider range of e-commerce shipments. These mailers are crafted from sustainably sourced paper and are curbside recyclable, aligning with Georgia-Pacific’s goal to reduce plastic waste and promote responsible forestry practices. The expansion includes new production lines in McDonough, Georgia, to meet growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions.
Advancements in Building Materials
Georgia-Pacific’s EcoGuard® line offers a comprehensive suite of sustainable building products, including moisture-resistant gypsum boards like the DensElement® Barrier System, engineered wood products, and sustainably sourced lumber. These materials help builders meet stringent green building codes such as LEED and ICC-700, contributing to energy efficiency, waste reduction, and healthier indoor environments. Notably, the TimberStrand® laminated strand lumber maximizes yield from smaller trees, further enhancing sustainability.
Circular Economy Initiatives
In a significant move to close the loop on recycling, Georgia-Pacific has expanded its paper cup recycling capabilities at its Savannah River mill in Rincon, Georgia. The facility now accepts polyethylene (PE)-coated paper cups in its mixed paper stock, enabling the recovery of valuable fibers for use in products like tissues, towels, and napkins. This initiative follows successful trials at the company’s Green Bay and Muskogee mills and supports broader efforts to incorporate recycled content into consumer goods.
Through these initiatives, Georgia-Pacific demonstrates its leadership in integrating sustainability into its product offerings and operations, aligning with the growing consumer demand for environmentally responsible products and practices.
