Centre Approves ₹459 Crore Airport Project in Bihta, Bihar

Date:

The Central government has approved a ₹459 crore airport project in Bihta, located 25 km from Patna, in a significant infrastructure boost for Bihar. The project, to be executed by Russian firm Joint Stock Company “Industrial Association,” aims to enhance air connectivity and ease congestion at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport.

According to the Airport Authority of India (AAI), the new airport will feature an integrated terminal, a utility building, an elevated road, and advanced IT systems. Designed to accommodate larger aircraft, the facility is expected to be operational by 2026.

The Bihar government has secured 108 acres for the project, which will be developed alongside the existing Indian Air Force base in Bihta. Additionally, an elevated road from Danapur to Bihta is planned to improve accessibility.

This development is part of Bihar’s broader aviation expansion strategy. Plans are also in motion for new greenfield airports in Rajgir and Bhagalpur, along with an international airport near Patna. These initiatives are expected to bolster regional connectivity and drive economic growth in the state.
