AI Eyes on Highways!

Date:

Karnataka’s idea to place AI-powered cameras on highways is a smart move. These cameras will help catch drivers who break rules, like speeding or not wearing seat belts, right away and send fines by message. The Transport Department will spend around ₹70 crore to install about 60 of these cameras at accident-prone spots, including near Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kolar, Tumakuru and Ramanagara.

This technology can make highways safer. When drivers know the rules are being watched closely, they are more likely to drive carefully. It also helps police and officials act quickly when there’s trouble, which can save lives. In the past, AI cameras on the Bengaluru–Mysuru expressway significantly reduced deaths. Now, with a bigger network of cameras across more districts, fewer accidents may occur and roads will be calmer.

This is a positive step toward safer highways. Karnataka is showing how smart technology can protect people and make travel better.
