Union Minister Joshi Unveils Modern Grain Silo Warehouse in Khagaria

Date:

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurated a state-of-the-art grain silo warehouse on Monday, June 23, 2025, in Pasraha village, about 25 km from Khagaria. Built at a cost of ₹150 crore, the facility offers a storage capacity of 50,000 metric tonnes, making it the fifth such silo in Bihar. Developed under the Food Corporation of India’s modernization drive, the warehouse features mechanized handling systems—including bucket elevators, chain conveyors and pneumatic suction—to minimize post-harvest losses and preserve grain quality.

Addressing the gathering, Joshi hailed the project as “a significant step in boosting agri-logistics” and noted its alignment with the national mission to double farmers’ incomes. He emphasized that the new silo will strengthen Bihar’s food-security framework and support rural livelihoods by offering farmers direct procurement options and reducing their storage costs.

The inauguration was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, LJP(RV) MP Rajesh Verma and MLA Pannalal Singh Patel, underlining the coordination between central and state authorities. Officials expect the facility to be operational by late July 2025, with training programs for local cooperatives to ensure efficient management.

Equipped with advanced temperature control and remote monitoring, the warehouse will serve over 10,000 farmers annually, stabilize grain supplies and create new employment opportunities in handling, maintenance and transportation across the region.
