India’s Roadmap to 2047: Green, Smart and Efficient Highways

Date:

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming India’s highway infrastructure under the Vision 2047 plan. The ambitious initiative aims to create a world-class transportation network, boosting connectivity, economic growth, and sustainable mobility.

Gadkari emphasized that future highway projects will integrate advanced technologies, green energy solutions, and eco-friendly materials to minimize environmental impact. The plan focuses on expressways, green highways, electric vehicle corridors, and smart road systems to enhance efficiency and reduce logistics costs.

As part of Vision 2047, the government is accelerating projects like Bharatmala Phase II, expressway expansions, and multimodal connectivity hubs. These developments are expected to reduce travel time, enhance road safety, and promote economic corridors linking major cities and industrial zones.

With an emphasis on innovation, 3D-printed bridges, AI-based traffic management, and hydrogen-powered transport systems will be key elements of the future road network. Gadkari reiterated that the initiative aligns with India’s goal of becoming a $10 trillion economy by 2047, ensuring sustainable and inclusive infrastructure growth.
