These Highway Toll Booths Earn the Most in India

Date:

India’s highway network continues to generate massive revenue and recent toll collection data reveals an interesting trend, none of the top five highest-earning toll plazas are located in Delhi or Mumbai. Instead, major collections are coming from strategically positioned highway corridors across different states.

Leading the chart is Bharthana Toll Plaza, located in Gujarat on National Highway-48. This toll plaza has emerged as the highest revenue generator over the past few years, largely due to heavy commercial and freight traffic passing through one of India’s most active industrial routes. The consistent movement of long-distance goods carriers has significantly boosted its earnings.

Following closely are major toll plazas in Rajasthan, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. These toll booths are positioned along key inter-state highways that witness continuous movement of commercial vehicles, logistics fleets and passenger traffic. Their location on high-density transport corridors plays a crucial role in driving collections.

The absence of Delhi and Mumbai from the top five list highlights a broader shift in traffic patterns. While metro cities see heavy daily commuter movement, long-distance highway freight traffic appears to generate higher toll revenues overall.

With continued investments in expressways, freight corridors and national highways, toll plazas on economically strategic routes are expected to remain strong revenue contributors in the coming years.
