Volvo Group Korea and POSCO have entered into a strategic partnership to develop next-generation construction equipment, focusing on advanced materials and manufacturing technologies. The collaboration was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed at Volvo’s Changwon facility in South Korea.
The partnership aims to address the industry’s transition toward electrification and carbon neutrality, with a strong emphasis on creating lighter, stronger, and more efficient machinery. Both companies will work together across the full development cycle, including material research, application testing, and technical validation.
POSCO will contribute its expertise in high-performance steel and advanced manufacturing processes, while Volvo Group Korea will lead equipment design and integration. A key focus area is structural lightweighting using high-strength steel, which is expected to enhance fuel efficiency, durability, and overall performance of construction equipment.
The jointly developed technologies are planned to be gradually implemented in excavators produced at Volvo’s Changwon plant. Industry experts believe that such collaborations between material manufacturers and equipment producers will play a crucial role in improving product competitiveness and supporting sustainable construction practices.
