Union Budget’s Infra and Power Push Likely to Boost Aluminium Demand: NALCO CMD

Date:

The infrastructure and power sector thrust in the upcoming Union Budget is expected to significantly ramp up aluminium demand, according to the Chairman and Managing Director of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO). The outlook reflects aluminium’s growing role in large-scale infrastructure, energy transition, and industrial development.

Speaking on budget expectations, the NALCO CMD said aluminium is increasingly being used across power transmission lines, renewable energy projects, transportation, urban infrastructure, and housing due to its lightweight, durability, and recyclability. Increased public spending on highways, railways, metro systems, and green energy is likely to translate into higher off-take of the metal.

The power sector, in particular, is expected to drive demand as India expands transmission and distribution networks to support renewable capacity and grid modernisation. Aluminium’s cost efficiency compared to copper further strengthens its appeal for large-scale power infrastructure.

Industry experts note that consistent policy support and capital expenditure have already strengthened domestic aluminium consumption, while export demand remains resilient. A sustained infrastructure push in the Union Budget could provide additional momentum to the sector.

NALCO believes that rising domestic demand, combined with capacity optimisation and value-added products, will support long-term growth for India’s aluminium industry—positioning it as a key beneficiary of the government’s infrastructure-led development strategy.
