The SLBC tunnel project has been accorded top priority with the formation of a dedicated division focused exclusively on its execution and ongoing monitoring. This strategic step is aimed at speeding up construction activities, strengthening coordination, and ensuring closer supervision to avoid further delays.
Progress on the project has gained momentum following the successful dismantling and removal of the tunnel boring machine that had earlier stalled operations. Alongside this, essential rail track maintenance and repair work inside the tunnel is currently underway to facilitate smooth movement of machinery and personnel during the next phases of construction.
In parallel, a detailed review of the Kaleshwaram irrigation project is in progress, covering the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages. The Central Water and Power Research Station has submitted a technical report along with a structured work schedule. Testing activities at the Medigadda barrage have already begun, while expert teams are conducting site investigations and identifying borehole locations for the remaining barrages.
To maintain strict timelines, authorities have been instructed to complete rehabilitation and strengthening designs within one month. These focused measures are expected to enhance coordination, accelerate implementation, and strengthen the state’s overall irrigation and water supply infrastructure through timely completion of key projects.
