The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has taken a strong step to improve the state’s infrastructure by introducing the CM Flying Squad. This special team is responsible for checking the quality of road construction and ensuring that every project meets the required standards. The squad has already visited several districts to inspect the ongoing work and ensure that the roads being built are durable, safe and long-lasting.
The state government’s plan aims to upgrade around 7,373 link roads covering nearly 19,500 kilometers, with a total investment of about ₹4,150 crore. A key feature of the plan is its focus on road safety, about ₹91 crore has been set aside for measures like wide white strips on both sides of the roads to help drivers navigate safely during fog or low visibility at night.
What makes this initiative even more impressive is the use of technology. An AI-based survey has reportedly helped the government save over ₹380 crore by identifying more efficient ways to use resources.
This project reflects a forward-thinking approach to governance by combining technology, accountability and public service. Better roads mean better access to markets, schools and healthcare for people in rural Punjab. It also shows a commitment to transparency, as the monitoring squad ensures there is no compromise on quality.
