Pune Inner Ring Road Project Receives Funding Boost

Date:

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has secured crucial funding for the much-anticipated inner ring road project in its 2024-25 budget. This funding will facilitate land acquisition and the tendering process for the project’s initial phases, which aim to alleviate the city’s traffic congestion. Announced in 2016, the project is designed to improve connectivity between suburban areas and the main road network, covering a total of 128.08 kilometers.

The ring road will be developed in four phases, with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation handling 40 km and the Pune Municipal Corporation managing a 6 km stretch. The PMRDA will oversee the remaining 83 km, with plans for a road width of 65 meters. However, the land acquisition process may delay actual construction by over six months. Once completed, the inner ring road is expected to significantly enhance Pune’s transportation landscape and stimulate economic growth by improving access to suburban regions.
