India has introduced the PRISM-SG portal, a digital platform aimed at significantly speeding up the approval process for Road Over Bridge (ROB) projects across the country. Developed to improve coordination between various departments, the portal is expected to reduce approval time by nearly 75%, bringing the process down from about one year to just three to four months. This move is part of the government’s larger effort to accelerate infrastructure development and improve project efficiency.
PRISM-SG, which stands for Portal for Rail-Road Inspection & Stages Management – Steel Girders, enables online submission, inspection and approval of key technical documents required for ROB construction. Earlier, approvals for drawings, fabrication plans, welding procedures and inspections were handled through manual or partially offline systems, often leading to delays due to lack of coordination between road authorities, Indian Railways, contractors and inspection agencies.
With the new portal, all stakeholders can work on a single digital platform where documents can be uploaded, reviewed and approved in real time. This ensures better transparency, faster communication and improved accountability at every stage of the project.
The faster approval process is expected to help complete Road Over Bridge projects more quickly, reduce traffic congestion at railway crossings and strengthen the overall transport infrastructure. Digital initiatives like PRISM-SG reflect the government’s focus on modernizing project management systems and supporting faster economic growth through improved connectivity.
