The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Konkan Railway Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen integrated infrastructure development, marking a significant step toward improved coordination between road and rail projects.
The MoU aims to enhance planning, execution, and maintenance of infrastructure works in corridors where highways and railway networks intersect or run parallel. By sharing technical expertise, data, and best practices, both organisations seek to reduce project delays, optimise land use, and improve safety at critical crossings and connectivity points.
Officials said the collaboration will focus on synchronising project timelines, resolving land acquisition challenges, and integrating design standards to minimise duplication of efforts. The partnership is expected to be particularly beneficial in regions requiring complex infrastructure solutions due to terrain, urban density, or environmental considerations.
Industry experts note that closer coordination between road and rail authorities is essential to achieving multimodal transport efficiency, reducing logistics costs, and supporting economic growth. Integrated planning can also help improve last-mile connectivity, enhance passenger convenience, and ensure better utilisation of public investment.
The NHAI–Konkan Railway MoU aligns with the government’s broader infrastructure vision under programmes such as PM Gati Shakti, which emphasise seamless connectivity across transport modes. The agreement is expected to contribute to faster, more efficient, and future-ready infrastructure development across key regions.
