India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) aims to award road contracts totalling ₹3 trillion (INR 3 lakh crore) within the coming months, as officials ramp up execution and prioritise private participation, quality and speed.
MoRTH’s 2024–25 performance exceeded its target by completing 10,660 km of national highways, surpassing its goal of 10,421 km, while setting a new target of 10,000 km for 2025–26. So far around 1,994 km have already been completed this fiscal year, indicating strong momentum.
Minister of State Ajay Tamta emphasised the need to clear pending contract awards swiftly to maintain momentum and plug earlier gaps in delivery. The strategy includes faster DPR finalisation, greater private sector involvement and elevated quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.
